Digital tailoring has arrived

August 29, 2016

It’s never fun to stand perfectly still as a tailor works around you, placing pins and needles precariously close to your body. Thanks to a new digital process, fashion designers are now able to create and personalize a garment without ever touching the fabric. The process of digital tailoring, named Neuro, was created by French designer Clement Balavoine.

The digital process Neuro enables relies on 3D software technologies that are used together to create clothes that are fitted on virtual models. It allows designers to create, visualize and alter their design without ever touching physical fabric. Pieces created by Neuro are virtually sewn together and applied to a 3D gravity stimulator to show how the garment will fall and move on a human body.

After all the customization is completed a software program called Marvelous Designer enables designers to create “virtual photoshoots” by adjusting lighting and the surroundings to showcase their work. This entire process, if brought to the mass market, would completely revolutionize the way customers shop and how fashion designers make clothes. Outfits could be made to exact customer measurements in any color or pattern they desired.
